Captain Ralph Andrews lead the crew that manned the B24D Russell co-piloted. Seven other men served on the plane. They dubbed the plane "Skylark."  "Skylark" was a popular song of the day and there is a Sky Lark - a bird that is familiar in the area around Ephrata. Either or both facts combined could have served as the inspiration. Listen to this recording of “Skylark” and imagine what the words might have meant to a young man serving on that airplane.
